Pema Wainwright is a free-lance performing artist. Since graduating in 1997 from her Drama and Theatre Studies degree, including a semester at a French theatre school in Paris, she has enjoyed performing in a diverse range of projects.
As a musician, she’s been in multiple bands, that cross several genres for the past 25 years. From Samba to funky ska/gypsy stomp, from orchestral to the crazy mixture of music hall, trad jazz and psychedelia required to support the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band at the London Palladium! But musically, her first love is folk, and within this genre she performs with many bands, including representing Cornwall at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, with Caracana, along with leading the Horners and singing with the a cappella group, Kescana.
As an actress, Pema has enjoyed an equally eclectic variety, from serious theatre in London along with stand-up comedy to site-specific plays in the woods/on the beach, from local village panto to a West Country tour of The 39 Steps over two seasons. She is currently working as an elf, in Elf HQ for intoBodmin.
On top of music and theatre, Pema loves to dance and gets involved in dance projects such as The Venus Flower (at Trebah Gardens and Cotehele), and Via (by Penryn viaduct) as often as possible. Her dance explorations have also taken her to Cairo, for masterclasses in belly dancing. Additionally, Pema is a dance leader for Nos Lowens on the Cornish folk scene.
